Using Human Skin in Permeation Studies: Ethics, Regulations and Models
October 10, 2023
First, we will look at similarities and differences in ethics and mandatory regulations for the use of human biological samples in research in developed countries around the world. In other words, what you need to know before starting to use human skin for permeation studies.
Second, we’ll discuss the different in vitro models for permeation studies, particularly the pros and cons of the models, such as cost, availability, and quality. The topics discussed during the webinar are ethics and regulatory considerations you must know and cannot overlook to carry out your research.
Our speaker for this session is Dr. Laetitia Rapetti, co-founder of Alphenyx, a company aiming to provide alternative solutions to animal testing for research, in 2014. She is the company’s Chief Scientist Officer and an expert specialist in human skin models for permeation studies.

In Vitro Permeation as a Development Tool for Transdermal and Topical Patches
June 20, 2023
During the development of a transdermal patch, the in vitro permeation studies are an essential and useful tool to investigate new formulations regarding the potential of API diffusion through the skin. Because the range of possibilities for the design of a new TTS is broad, the setup design of in vitro permeation must be variable and chosen individual regarding the characteristics of an API and its formulations. In this webinar, we cover how a semiautomated diffusion cell system can be used as a tool for the individual in vitro permeation method designs in the development of a topical or transdermal patch to answer specific questions.
Our speaker for this session is Dr. Julia Lodder-Gadaczek from LTS Lohmann Therapie-Systeme AG, a worldwide transdermal market leader.

In Vitro Permeation Testing (IVPT): Application to Cosmetic Products
November 2022
The objective of in vitro permeation testing (IVPT) is to measure the absorption and diffusion of cosmetic products/ingredients into and across the skin. Please join Teledyne Hanson and PKDERM for this informative 45-minute webinar, followed by an interactive Q&A offering you an opportunity to address your specific application.
Our speaker for this session is Hanan Osman-Ponchet, founder and CEO of PKDERM and an expert in IVPT testing.
During the webinar, you’ll learn how, when and why to perform IVPT in your lab, the differences between pharma and cosmetic testing, and the precautions to take when performing IVPT. IVPT is conducted using Franz-type diffusion cells and are performed according to OECD GD 428 and to SCCS/1358/10. Data generated using this predictive in vitro model are important for safety evaluation of cosmetic ingredients and are used to fill up the exposure and toxicological profile sections of the Cosmetic Product Safety Report as required by the EU Cosmetic Regulation 1223/2009.

Comparative Study of Different Membranes Modeling Skin Penetration
October 2022
The human skin is marked as a standard by regulatory agencies in the permeation study of dermal formulations. Artificial membranes can substitute human skin to some extent.
We invite you join us for this informative, 45-minute webinar, followed by an interactive Q&A session, sponsored by Teledyne Hanson and presented by Szilvia Berkó, PharmD, PhD., with the Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology and Regulatory Affairs in Szeged, Hungary.
Academicians and pharmaceutical corporations are focusing their efforts on developing standardized protocols and safe, reliable options to substitute human skin for carrying out permeability studies. This webinar demonstrates the applicability of different membranes using the Franz diffusion cell method and presents a supporting technique for a more relevant evaluation of the results.
Highlights include:
- A description of the requirements for the experimental conditions of the Franz diffusion cell method
- The difference between synthetic and biological membranes and their application possibilities
- Some results and conclusions of the experimental tests carried out using the Franz diffusion cell method with different membranes.
